According to Karbauskis, if the Social Democrats leader does not become the Prime Minister, talking about „stolen“ Seimas elections will be possible.
„We all understand that if Blinkevičiūtė were not there, there would be no Social Democrat wave, and the election results would be completely different,“ the leader of the Peasant Party believes.
He said that if the elections had not been held in the absence of Ms Blinkevičiūtė, who’s voters saw as the most desirable candidate for Prime Minister, other potential candidates would have had better chances.
„Then both Aurelijus Veryga and Saulius Skvernelis would have performed better. The elections would have been different then; the votes would have fallen differently,“ said Karbauskis.
He also knew that Social Democrat voters' reaction to the news of Blinkevičiūtė's withdrawal would be negative.
„It will be that voters chose one thing and got another. How can they evaluate this? What can you think when you pay money for a ticket to a concert of a good singer and someone who barely sings gets on stage? Of course, then you get angry,“ Karbauskis said.
For a long time, Blinkevičiūtė avoided answering directly whether she would lead the Government in the event of the Social Democrats' success. Still, a few weeks before the elections, she assured that she would take up the post of Prime Minister.
The politician insisted that there was no other plan.
However, on the night of the elections, Blinkevičiūtė's rhetoric started to change, and her associates started to speak more openly, suggesting that the earlier doubts about her plans might be justified—she is not planning to be Prime Minister and will nominate Gintautas Paluckas for the post.
Blinkevičiūtė should inform the Presidium of the party that won 52 seats in the Seimas elections on Wednesday about her decision.
Everyone is waiting to hear the party leader's reasons, but it is assumed that she will report health problems.
