„Yes, if the Central Electoral Commission proposes it. By law, it is obliged to do so if Bilotaitė actually goes ahead with it,“ Masiulis told ELTA.
„I am simply the first person on the list. I stood for election to serve in the Seimas. This opportunity has arisen almost two years after the election,“ he added.
Masiulis noted that he is currently a member of the Council of Mykolas Romeris University, but this role, he said, would not prevent him from returning to parliament.
Would like to work in the field of public administration
When asked in which areas he would like to work upon his return to the Seimas, Masiulis first and foremost highlighted public administration.
„After all, I am a professional in public administration, a specialist, perhaps a theorist or a researcher in that field. So, I would like to work in that area,“ said the politician.
He also noted that education, foreign affairs, and defence policy are close to his heart. However, Masiulis stated that he would most like to serve on the Seimas Committee on State Governance and Local Authorities.
„I would most like to work in public administration. The Committee on State Governance and Local Authorities, where I used to serve, if I could join it,“ said Masiulis.
The Conservative did not comment on Bilotaitė’s resignation from the Seimas.
„I cannot comment on her decision. It is, I suppose, her choice, influenced by circumstances relating to her personal life. Work in politics is indeed stressful and time-consuming,“ he said.
ELTA reports that Bilotaitė has decided to relinquish her seat in the Seimas and on Monday wrote to the Central Electoral Commission (VRK) requesting that her powers as a Member of Parliament be revoked. The politician cited personal circumstances, saying she needed to devote more attention to her health and family. She also announced that she was stepping back from active political life, though she remains a member of the TS-LKD.
