„We estimate that, according to this morning’s figures, around 1,200 customers are without electricity. Of these, around a quarter are unoccupied properties,“ ESO spokesperson Rasa Juodkienė told LRT Radio on Monday.
According to her, 99.5 per cent of the electricity supply has now been restored, and work is continuing at this very moment.
„This figure is steadily decreasing every day. The areas are marshy, and the network has been destroyed, so the situation is not straightforward,“ noted the ESO spokesperson.
Last week, ESO increased compensation payments to residents for direct losses suffered following the storm that ravaged Lithuania. The maximum amount of compensation will depend on the time taken to restore the electricity supply.
Residents whose electricity supply was restored within 3–6 days will be compensated up to 220 euros; those whose supply was restored within 7–13 days – up to 440 euros; and those whose electricity supply took 14 days or more to be restored – up to 660 euros in compensation for losses.
According to Juodkienė, ESO has currently received around 4,000 applications for state support.
The first compensation payments are expected to reach residents on Monday.
ELTA reports that during the storm which hit Lithuania on 22 August, trees were uprooted in many parts of the country; one person was killed, and four others were injured.
At its peak, the power supply was disrupted for more than 268,000 ESO customers, and more than 11,000 faults were recorded on the electricity grid.
Due to the storm’s aftermath and the losses suffered by farmers, the Government has declared a national state of emergency.
