Eighty-two members of the Seimas voted in favour of extending the restrictions, three voted against, and 34 abstained.
It was agreed that the draft law would be discussed in the Seimas as a matter of urgency.
The draft law proposes to clarify the application of national sanctions to legal persons by restricting Russian entrepreneurs, regardless of whether they have a temporary or permanent residence permit in Lithuania.
It also seeks to restrict the right of legal persons to acquire real estate by assessing whether a Russian citizen is a beneficiary of a particular legal person under the Law on Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.
Did not support the proposal to restrict the return of Russian and Belarusian citizens to their home countries
The Seimas Committee on National Security and Defence (NSGK) last week approved a compromise proposal that residence permits granted to Russian and Belarusian citizens in Lithuania should be revoked if they return to their country of origin more than once in a three-month period and if their travels threaten the country's national security. However, the Seimas did not support this initiative.
During the plenary session, 41 members of the Seimas voted in favour of the proposal, 37 against it, and 39 abstained.
„Colleagues, I think a good compromise has been reached here,“ said Audronius Ažubalis, a member of the Conservatives' group, assessing the NSGK proposal during the session.
As in the previous Seimas decision, the amendments to the law maintain the restrictions on issuing visas to Russians and Belarusians is remaining. Exceptions are provided for those persons who are family members of citizens of Lithuania or other European Union (EU) countries or members of crews engaged in international transport. The restrictions would also not apply to persons arriving in Lithuania for humanitarian reasons.
If the Seimas adopts the law amendments, the restrictive measures' application will be extended from 3 May this year until 2 May 2025.
