The Head of State signed the revised decree on Wednesday evening. The decision forms the entire Government of the Prime Minister-designate Gintautas Paluckas.
ELTA recalls that last week, President Nausėda signed a decree on the new Government's composition. However, the new cabinet was approved then without the two environmental and justice ministers.
The Dawnbreakers already had two candidates to head the latter ministry. First, lawyer Gintautas Bartkus was offered the ministerial portfolio, but when he declined, Virginijus Kulikauskas, the former Head of the Lithuanian Prison Service, was delegated to the ministry. However, he failed to convince the President of his suitability to head the Ministry of Justice.
The nomination of Sigitas Podėnas as Minister of the Environment was also rejected.
At the same time, the President approved the nomination of Rimantas Šadžius, who had already held the post, for the post of Minister of Finance, Dovilė Šakalienė, MP, for the post of Minister of National Defence, Šarūnas Birutis, MP, for the post of Minister of Culture, Inga Ruginienė, MP, for the post of Minister of Social Security and Labour, and Eugenijus Sabutis, MP, for the post of Minister of Transport, Marija Jakubauskienė, Director of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University; Raminta Popovienė, MP, Minister of Education, Science and Sport; Vladislavas Kondratovičius, Director of the Vilnius District Municipality Administration, Minister of the Interior; and Kęstutis Budrys, until recently the President's Senior Adviser on National Security, as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Vardan Lietuvos nominated MP Lukas Savickas for the Ministry of Economy and Innovation and Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, who had already held this post, for the Ministry of Energy. The President approved their nominations.
At the same time, Nemuno Aušra had nominated Ignas Hofmanas, the Chairman of the Lithuanian Agriculture Council, for the position of Minister of Agriculture.
The new Government will only be able to function once the Seimas approves the Cabinet of Ministers' programme, a vote scheduled for Thursday.
