On Tuesday, while considering the opposition's proposals, which numbered well over 100 in an attempt to delay the process for this law, the Seimas sat until around two o'clock in the morning.
On Wednesday, the amendments passed the second stage of deliberation. On Thursday evening, another unscheduled Seimas session will be convened, which will undoubtedly take a long time, as opposition MPs continue to troll the ruling party with their proposals.
Another difficult day awaits the Seimas Culture Committee, which will once again have to consider a large number of new ideas for amendments to the LRT.
However, there was no shortage of curiosities in the plenary session hall. Along with the amendments, one of the opposition's proposals was also approved at the deliberation stage: the director general of LRT can be dismissed from office before the end of his term on grounds of no confidence only if the cat of Democrat Agnė Širinskienė, Nuodėgulis, expresses no confidence.
In the evening, protesters opposing the ruling party's actions will gather for the third night in a row in Independence Square, near the parliament. Among them are the journalistic community and their supporters, as well as representatives of other sectors.
On Wednesday, an estimated 10,000 people gathered for the protest.
President Gitanas Nausėda had remained silent on the situation until now. Still, on Thursday, the head of state finally commented, stating that the Council of the public broadcaster could resign en bloc.
Meanwhile, Nausėda has called the proceedings in the Seimas, where amendments to the LRT law are being considered as a matter of urgency, a 'hybrid attack'.
