In recent days, Lithuanian schools and institutions have received threats, and the president's chief advisor, Deividas Matulionis, says the presidency would support more extensive legal regulation in cases of disinformation that causes unrest in the country.

„This is a psychological measure. In fact, it seems that our Seimas, our parliamentarians, should consider how to regulate disinformation more effectively or impose additional sanctions. In cases where chaos is being created and the situation is destabilising; the prosecutor's office and law enforcement agencies should be assisted in conducting more serious pre-trial investigations. Appropriate measures should be taken to stabilise the situation, not destabilise it. The prosecutor's office and law enforcement agencies should be assisted in conducting more serious pre-trial investigations, and (...) such actions would have a disciplinary effect,“ Matulionis told Žinių Radijas on Tuesday.
„Certain discussions are going on in the Seimas – we would support greater legal regulation,“ he continued.
According to the president's chief advisor, it is too early to determine who is responsible for the threats. Still, it is known that they were received not only by Lithuanian institutions, but also by institutions in other countries.
„It is difficult to say at this point, because it is a so-called attribution – it is difficult to say who is actually behind it. However, this is not the first case (...), there were also numerous messages sent to schools about explosives being planted some time ago. Now there have been threats to kill and shoot,“ said Matulionis.
„According to our information, this has happened not only in Lithuania, but also in some other countries, such as Kazakhstan, which has experienced similar attacks,“ he added.
On Sunday evening, the Lithuanian police and other services reported that they had information about threats to schools posted on the Telegram channel. On Monday, the Prosecutor General's Office launched a pre-trial investigation to identify the initiators and distributors of these messages, as well as their objectives.
On Monday afternoon, the Vilnius City District Court received an email stating that seven buildings in Vilnius had been mined, including the Seimas, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the Ministry of the Interior.
