According to a poll conducted by Baltic Tyrimai on behalf of ELTA, 74% of the population had a favourable opinion of G. Nausėda in the first month of this year. In comparison, 20% of the citizens said they had the opposite opinion. However, despite the drop in the rating, G. Nausėda remains one of the most favourably regarded politicians. Only Valdas Adamkus, who has led the country for two terms, is ahead of him (80% have a favourable opinion and 12% an unfavourable opinion).
The most unfavourably rated politicians are A. Armonaitė, V. Landsbergis and I. Šimonytė
The lowest-rated person in the ranking is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis. He was rated unfavourably by 78% of the population. On the other hand, 17% of voters said they had a favourable opinion of the Minister.
Other politicians with the most unfavourable opinion are the leader of the Liberals, Aušrinė Armonaitė (75% unfavourably, 18% favourably), Professor Vytautas Landsbergis (74% unfavourably, 19% favourably) and Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė (74% unfavourably, 20% favourably) as well as the former President of Lithuania Rolandas Paksas. He was unfavourably evaluated by 55% of the public, while a quarter said they had a favourable opinion of politics.
In January, compared to the survey conducted a month earlier, the number of respondents who had a favourable opinion of the parliamentarian Agnė Širinskienė decreased by five percentage points, with 52% of respondents expressing their unfavourable opinion of the politician, while 32% had a favourable one. The positive assessment of the chairman of the Democratic Union In the Name of Lithuania, Sauliaus Skvernelis, also decreased, with four percentage points fewer respondents having a favourable opinion of him in January (a total of 45%, and 47% had an unfavourable opinion of him).
During the month, the assessment of 7 politicians worsened by at least three percentage points – V. Adamkus, Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas (60% of respondents had a favourable opinion of V, 30 per cent unfavourably), President Dalia Grybauskaitė (59 per cent of respondents had a favourable opinion, 34 per cent – unfavourably), LSDP leader Vilija Blinkevičiūtė (56 per cent of respondents had a favourable opinion, 35 per cent – unfavourably), and parliamentarian Jonas Pinskas (37 per cent had a favourable opinion, 36 per cent – negatively).
Comparing the results of the January survey with the December 2023 survey, the population's opinion has remained the same about any of the 27 public figures analysed in this study, Baltic Tyrimai reports.
The survey took place from 19–29 January 2024. The survey covered 1,021 Lithuanians (aged 18 and over) by personal interview and was conducted at 109 sampling points. The composition of the respondents corresponds to the composition of the adult population of Lithuania by gender, age, nationality and type of settlement. The people surveyed reflect the opinion of the Lithuanian population aged 18 and over. The margin of error of the survey results is up to 3.1%.
